Columbia St. Mary's Lacking the basic education required for self-supporting employment, impoverished students in Milwaukee often attend the Adult Learning Center (ALC), a first step out of poverty. Unfortunately, their impoversihed circumstances frequently cause health issues that can interfere with class attendance. The Nursing Student Training Program at CSM's Adult Learning Center project responds with the healthcare services of Julia Means, RN. Assisted by UW-Milwaukee student nurses, she helps ALC students maintain good health so that they can achieve their academic goals. In turn, the nursing students learn cultural competency and gain experience in hands-on community nursing with Nurse Means' extensive experience in serving Milwaukee's underserved populations. |
