CHIP is a paid summer internship program for undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in public health. The six-week program links students with local health departments and health and human service organizations to work on a variety of public health projects. The internships are designed to provide students with real-world community health experiences related to their chosen career interest.
"CHIP has played such a major role in my life during college, and beyond. I truly learned so much and was exposed to a whole new side of medicine that I never knew existed!"

Wisconsin Express is an opportunity for college students studying health professions to spend a weeklong immersion in one of Wisconsin's diverse communities, learning about health care resources and the challenges faced by a local and regional, urban or rural population. The week begins with an interactive workshop focusing on cultural effectiveness and interprofessional health care teamwork. This serves as an introduction to the community experience. During the following 3 - 4 days, in groups of 6 - 12, multidisciplinary student teams live in and explore the ethnic and cultural diversity within a community. To conclude the week, participants gather for a wrap-up session to reflect on and evaluate the experience.
|
"I have always had the ultimate goal to serve underserved communities in my practice but had planned to join organizations like UNICEF or Amnesty International. The program has shown me that my own community in Milwaukee is in need and I have decided to turn my focus in that direction first and foremost." - A medical student and participant in the Wisconsin Express program, sponsored by Milwaukee AHEC
