CHW Training

  • Milwaukee AHEC is an established provider of Community Health Worker Training. Recognizing that there is a need for community health workers to serve as a “bridge” between community members and the health care delivery system, Milwaukee AHEC launched the Community Health Worker Training Program in 2010.

  • The training program is employer-endorsed, with partner health systems in the metro Milwaukee area, and culminates in learners earning a certification from Milwaukee AHEC.

  • Our CHW Training has clear objectives for participants to demonstrate the following skills upon training completion:

    • Describe the role of a CHW

    • Describe a healthy community and the factors affecting its health

    • Explain the implications of health statistics to community health and development

    • Discuss & apply the strategies/approaches necessary to educate members of the community

    • Serve as part of a health care team in service to individuals and families in the community

    • Demonstrate acquired knowledge, skills and behaviors of a CHW.

  • The Virtual CHW Training Program consists of online coursework with textbook, 15 virtual weekly sessions (one afternoon/week), 6 months of 1-on-1 coaching after training is completed, culminating in a Certificate of Completion after Final Presentations.
